Camino day 20 to Ligonde

Yesterday 9 June the day started from Sarria which is a popular commencement point for the Camino. For those who have little time or don’t want to walk longer distances, the Compestella is awarded for walking at least 100 km or cycling 200km to Santiago. Sarria is 114km from Santiago so many pilgrims start here. The vibe is a bit different, enthusiastic new pilgrims wearing little packs and modern activewear. This means many more people on the trail.

A highlight was a visit through Portomarin. The reservoir shown was built in 1956 and a town needed to be built due to the reservoir located where the old town was. The church was relocated, and reconstructed done by stone to its new location at the top of the new town.

Forest before the rain

This tiny little church was just before Ligonde.

This type of statute is seen along the Camino, an ancient way of marking the route.

The tracks today were a mixture of gravel, sealed track and also sections of muddy rocky tracks. Ended up in an albergue which was a 500 year old barn converted to pilgrim accommodation.

Today 39 km / total 707

  1. Wow Mum that albergue looks stunning for it's age, I also love the moss covered stone walls along the forest, looks amazing!
