Chámpagne region Reims & Epernay

Leaving Amsterdam on Sunday we travelled in our hire car through Belgium into France to the champagne region. Reims was our first stop  Lynda and I visited Mumm for a tasting then walked to the plaza and had more tastings and dinner. Absolutely delightful area.

Next day we visited cathedral Notre Dame de Reims before heading to the town where most of the big champagne houses are: Epernay. There we walked the Avenue of Champagne. Moët Chandon first tasting, then further tastings at 2 boutique houses. Finished at a tasting house which showcased 100 different champagnes from boutique producers. We tasted their featured 6 for the day.  The sun was shining and the whole area is beautiful.

Even though I’d had 7 glasses of wine the day before I woke up feeling good, so went for a run Tuesday morning down Av de Champagne.
Tuesday was Lynda’s special day- we were visiting her favorite champagne house - Brimoncourt in the town of Ay.
Brimoncourt premises previously was a printing house for the champagne houses big names and small.. they still have all the printing plates stored.
We had a tasting of their 4 premium champagnes, with extensive information on how each was produced to ensure consistent taste and bubbles with each type. Every one we tasted was exceptional . I now have a favorite brand for when I’m back in Australia. (Can’t fit in my pack ) 🙃

After Brimoncourt we drove through the beautiful French countryside to Paris where we are staying for a few days
The town of Ay.
